In addition to my little book and poster I made about sweatshops I have also printed onto a bag, which is 100% recycled cotton, to sell at my degree show. The purpose of the bag is so that more people will see it. When it gets used and you walk down the high street or are behind someone in a que you would see it and read it and in this way the message gets more passed across. After doing more and more silk screening I am really starting to enjoy it, which is why it’s a shame that I will be finishing and leaving the print rooms soon :( I might have to go in and get a load of t-shirts and custom made things designed and done quickly before I leave :p
Here are a few pages from a book I have made to sell at my degree show about sweatshops. The country targeted here is Bangladesh. This is a follow up project to one that I did last year, creating a poster with identical workers and tags with that facts (in the archive on here). The facts are all put on clothes labels in the book, which is very small. I find this makes the facts quite powerful because they’re such bold and poignant facts to come out of such a small book.
After a stressful few days with printers running out of ink at uni and my first choice of paper not wanting to go through the machines, I have finally printed and put together my book of binge drinking beer mat facts. The size works well because I have kept the book beer mat sized, with each beer mat taking up a page, back and front. I like the book because it is tactile and nice to flick through. And because I generally like having books to look through :p
So finally got round to working on my beer mat project some more. The idea is to raise the awareness of how binge drinking and how bad it is for you. Before screen printing onto the beer mats I had collected, I peeled off any images or text to do with alcohol to show an anger towards the alcohol. I am going to present these beer mats as a poster image and also in a little book. Currently looking for a frame to put this poster in, but undecided what sort I want, and need to see if I can find one that is a2 size as that is the size I would like to use!
Trying to find appropriate images for the hound of the baskervilles. First attempts didn’t go so well but got some photography from my photography friend Sadie Webb (http://snoogs.tumblr.com/), edited it to make it look darker and so far this is what I’v come up with.
Suggestions appreciated!
For one of my self initiated projects I am redesigning 6 penguin classic books. I am giving them a contemporary theme and using photography for the main image with help from my photography friends as I have not got a decent camera to take them with!
These are finalish design’s, more tweaking will most likely take place on them :p
Comments welcome!
This is my design for One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest for the Penguin design awards. I’m really happy with the outcome of this design. For the cover I made a nest with pill eggs, one of the eggs being a different pill to symbolise McMurphy.
